It seems gamers still can’t get enough of the simplistic glory that is Minecraft. While it lacks much of the content of it’s PC-based parent and multiplayer is still a ways away, Minecraft Pocket has managed to sell over five million copies on both Android and iOS. It’s especially surprising considering that Minecraft itself has only about 8 million registered owners, and probably twice that in pirates. Perhaps they felt the cheaper mobile app was worth it, or there’s a lot of dual purchases.
Either way, it certainly makes Minecraft a force to be reckoned with in the mobile gaming arena, where more and more eyes are focusing on lately as the largest growth sector in the gaming industry. I would not be surprised if this only spurs development of more “pocket” versions of games that can be purchased for a nominal fee. It could be Minecraft fans are just addicted though, I know I am.
5 million of you have bought Minecraft Pocket Edition, amazing! 🙂
