While the X Games in Austin officially began last night with a taste of extreme sports, MLG begins today as the leaders in competitive Call of Duty prepare to battle for X Games medals. This is the first time eSports have taken residence beside extreme sports such as BMX, Rally, and Moto X. The event is currently being broadcast on MLG.tv, with highlights of the tournament to air on ESPN and ABC.

Eight popular Call of Duty teams will participate at the invitational, featuring the top three teams from the Call of Duty Championship.

“The popularity of competitive gaming and the MLG Pro Circuit is at an all-time high with millions watching the best gamers compete each month on MLG.tv,” said Don Reilley, MLG EVP Sales. “This collaboration with X Games will help further bring MLG to the mainstream while we provide advertisers with quality exposure and deep engagement with our fan base on MLG.tv across all platforms.”

In the tournament, each of the eight teams will be split into two groups. Each group will try to endure a double elimination, with the top two teams in each group advancing to a single elimination bracket. Following that will be two semi-final matches which will house a bronze medal match before finally reaching the gold medal match.

Fans of Call of Duty and eSports should definitely check out the competition now at MLG.tv!
