That quirky and rather fun (if I do say so myself) kart racer that we first heard about from Sony at last year's E3 is finally getting some solid release info. Here's the deal - the game is going to hit store shelves for both the PS3 and PSP on May 25 in North America. That's coming up pretty quick! It was also confirmed today on the PlayStation Blog that the game will indeed have 4-player split-screen co-op, and I can not tell you how happy I am about that! You can check the box art above, and hit the jump for info about the pre-order goodies that Sony will be dishing out, depending from which retailer you decide to purchase the game.

So, here's the pre-order info. Kratos, Ratchet & Clank and Nathan Drake - all names that are synonymous with Sony at this juncture - have been created in ModNation Racers, and you'll be able to pick up one of them, depending on where you pre-order. Here's the info you need to know:

  • To receive the Kratos mod, pre-order at GameStop.
  • To receive a Ratchet or Clank mod, pre-order at Amazon.
  • To receive a Nathan Drake mod, pre-order at Best Buy.

All other retailers are out of luck, I guess?

In addition to those bonuses, each pre-order will receive a Mystery Mod and Kart package. Each of these mysterious packages contain a mod, a kart and various other items to use in your own creations in the full copy of the game.

So, it sounds like some spiffy pre-order deals Sony has going on to celebrate the release of this latest title to make use of their "Play. Create. Share." mantra. Is this something you're looking forward to, given the lack of any good kart racers besides those with "Mario" in the title?
