Yesterday, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Chinese developer October Media announced the upcoming PS4 game Monkey King Hero Is Back at the PlayStation press conference at the China Digital Entertainment Expo & Conference (also called ChinaJoy) in Shanghai.

Today we get a press kit with the first official screenshots of the game, giving us a very welcome full-resolution look at the gameplay.

The game is co-developed by October Media and Sony's own Japan Studio, and it's tied-in with the 2015 movie directed by Tian Xiao Peng, that is definitely popular in Asia.

It's said to be an AAA-level production, and it comes with its own PlayStation VR mode, even if the headset is not required. We could say that it's pretty much the embodiment of Sony's newly-announced strategy for the Chinese market, that involves the acquisition of unique local IP products

For the moment there is no release date, but the game is being developed for the overseas market as well as the Chinese one, so there are good chances that we'll see it in the west at some point.

You can check out the screenshots below, and if you want to see more, you can also enjoy the first trailer, released yesterday.
