Murdered: Soul Suspect, the upcoming supernatural crime-thriller, will utilize three different approaches in its gameplay to tell its story. Despite this, the story's narrative will be the chief driving force that moves the game along.

"The main focus for us is the aspect of investigating the mystery surrounding your death," Senior Design Producer Eric Studer explained on the PlayStation Blog. "Second to that is the desire to exist as a ghost, and to play around with how you interact with the world. Then supporting the first two, enemy encounters come into play." These aspects are described as encompassing crime scene investigation, exploration, and supernatural combat.

Influences on the game include the film Seven, and The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman.

Murdered: Soul Suspect is being developed by Airtight Games and will be published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on June 3rd, 2014.
