Degica Games announced that Muv-Luv Alternative will launch on PC-via Steam on September 18, with English, Japanese, and Chinese text options.

Muv-Luv Alternative concludes the Muv-Luv trilogy, which includes the two previous titles Muv-Luv Extra and Muv-Luv Unlimited. Even though the series began as a romantic comedy, the story changes to feature action-packed mech fighting scenes in an alternate reality. With the story containing many twists and surprises, the final chapter has been regarded in the visual novel community as one of the best visual novels of all time.

Unlike the other entries in the series, Muv-Luv Alternative is designed as an interactive premiere movie, complete with voice acting, subtitles, and music. The game clocks in at around 50-70 hours and has a user interface that has been redesigned to work on tablet PCs and touch-screens.

The publisher details the game’s premise:

Three years after witnessing the tragic exodus of mankind, Takeru wakes up believing that everything that had happened was just a dream. The brief hope that he has at last come back to his world is dashed away as soon as he discovers that he is once more trapped in the parallel world of Unlimited.

Restarting on that fateful day he first came here, will Takeru manage to use his knowledge of previous events to change mankind’s tragic future?

Muv-Luv Alternative will launch on Steam for $39.99.
