Nintendo has announced that Gold Points on My Nintendo will now be valid for twelve months after they are received instead of six.

On My Nintendo, Gold Points are gained from purchasing games on the eShop, and can be used to redeem a variety of rewards, such as discounts on newer games. You can read the full message below.

Gold Points are now valid for 12 months after you collect them. Up until now, both Gold Points and Platinum Points have been set to expire 6 months after you earn them. However, moving forward, your points will be valid for different lengths of time depending on what type of points they are. Gold Points: Valid for 12 months after you collect them. Platinum Points (all types): Valid for 6 months after you collect them. Remember that when you redeem points for rewards, the points closest to expiring will automatically be used first. If you need to check the points you’ve collected, the points you’ve earned, or any points that have expired, be sure to take a look at “Points history” in the My Nintendo menu.
My Nintendo is the successor to Club Nintendo, which shut down in 2015.
