Club Nintendo, the rewards program for Nintendo players, shut down earlier this year but with the promise that some kind of a replacement service would be revealed later this year. Yesterday's Nintendo strategy briefing offered some glimpses at early details of the new service and how it will differ from the now-gone Club Nintendo.

'My Nintendo' membership service will now be directly tied to users' consoles as well as Nintendo's official website. Digital games will be able to be purchased through the site and downloaded directly onto the Wii U or 3DS. The rewards for playing and purchasing games will be similar to how it worked on Club Nintendo, but will also offer DLC and discount coupons for digital titles as rewards.

The new Nintendo account service will allow for more connectivity between friends as well as interaction with retail displays and other future endeavors like movie theaters and theme parks.

This new service will be released simultaneously with the communication app, Miitomo.
