Namco Bandai to Develop The Next Smash Bros. Installment

Nintendo Direct, a kind of live streaming Nintendo press conference, today announced that Namco Bandai will handle the development of the next upcoming Super Smash Bros. game for Wii U and the 3DS. Yoshito Higuchi, producer of the Tales of franchise will be heading the title as its director. The franchise’s original creator, Masahiro Sakurai, is not out of the picture, however; he will be working in the capacity of supervisor alongside his Kid Icarus team Sora.

I really loved the development of Smash as a series, but Sakurai’s vision seemed to almost spite the development of the Smash community throughout the development of Brawl. Hopefully Namco’s more competitive mindset will bring some good sense back to the series. Who knows though, we may all be tripping on our hopes in a short time.
