Naughty Dog Announces Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Pushed to April 2016

This holiday season gamers were given the chance to relive the exciting adventures of one of Sony’s biggest franchises with the release of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and while many have patiently waited for the upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, it seems the wait will be a little bit longer, according to Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley.

The PlayStation Blog provided a new update regarding Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, with Druckmann and Straley confirming that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be releasing in North America on April 26th, 2016 and in Europe on the following day, April 27th, 2016.

Druckmann and Straley explained on the PlayStation Blog that “we need a bit more time to finish the game so that it meets our standards and vision,” with the directors detailing that “this is our largest Uncharted game to date, and the team has been working incredibly hard to meet the challenge of closing out the game’s development in a timely manner.” They continued in their statement on the blog post:

“However, as we approached our final deadlines and started wrapping up the game’s levels, we realized that several key sequences needed extra resources to bring them to the finish line. After carefully considering all of our options, we decided to extend our schedule, making sure that we get a few more polish passes before submitting our gold master (the final disc for manufacturing).”

“Pushing the date is not an easy choice, and we wouldn’t do it if we didn’t feel in our hearts it’s the best course of action for the game. To you, our loyal fans, we hope you’ll accept our sincere apology. We know many of you have been waiting patiently for Nathan Drake’s final chapter, and now we humbly ask you to wait a bit longer.”

It’s surely a bit of a bummer for Uncharted fans as A Thief’s End has been highly-anticipated and already seen several prior delays, with the new delay marking a little over a one-month bump from the title’s originally-planned release on March 18th, 2016.

Despite the news of the delay however, Druckmann and Straley explained (at least with some good news) that the title “is wrapping up production and is shaping up to be the proper send off for Nathan Drake that we’ve promised you.”

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will release for PS4 on April 26th, 2016 for the US, while in Europe it will release on April 27th, 2016.
