While Assassin’s Creed titles are often lauded for their graphics and visual presentation, they are also commendable for their surprisingly in-depth historical accuracy and detail, whether it was in their depictions of the Crusades, the rich history of The Renaissance, or the conflicts of the American Revolution.

With Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag taking place in the early 1700’s, Ubisoft took to bringing on Mike Loades, a renowned weapons historian, to their team to consult and provide in-depth details about the proper weaponry of the time. In a new behind-the-scenes video released, you can take a look at some gameplay from Black Flag (and pretty awesome pirate-era weaponry) as Loades goes into the historical context of the various weapons and tools you will be using in the latest Assassin’s Creed title.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag releases for Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U on October 29th, PS4 on November 15th, PC on November 19th, and on Xbox One on November 22nd.
