New Camelot Unchained Updates Show Massive Armies and a Big Tease

With the $1,000,000 milestone surpassed the Camelot Unchained Kickstarter project received two back-to-back updates today showing quite a few interesting new elements.

The first update has Mark Jacobs in a fetching Aloha shirt (long story, don’t ask) spelling a few interesting elements about the growing community behind the game: it includes without a doubt a lot of very generous and dedicated people, as the average pledge is the highest between all the game-related Kickstarter projects. It’s not even higher just by a little bit, as it’s currently sitting at a whopping $160.

In addition to that the community is also one of the most active, with a 13,642 comments at the moment of this writing.

The update also included a rather big tease, with the concept art that you can see above. While no one (at least to my knowledge) cracked the code yet, word on the street is that it has something to do with Darkness Falls. If you played Dark Age of Camelot you know what I’m talking about, and if you didn’t, what’s wrong with you?!

The second update stars Technical Director Andrew Meggs as he shows something definitely impressive: a tech demo with 500 of the lovely Tuatha Dé Danann and Vikings models we saw a few days ago animated and assembled in their full glory, demonstrating that the engine can handle them without breaking a sweat and holding a pretty stable 100-120 frames per second. An interesting tidbit is that the current models don’t even have LOD implemented yet, meaning that they all weigh their full 12,000 polygons, and when LOD will be part of the picture there will be a lot of wiggle room for detailed environments and more bells and whistles.

You can check the video out below, and you can contribute to the Kickstarter yourself by heading here. The game has gathered $1,038,695 at the moment of this writing, but the road to two million is still long.

Oh, before I forget, if you’re intersted in Camelot Unchained you may want to check back here tomorrow at 2 PM EST. I have an exclusive surprise for you up my sleeve. I can play the tease game too, can’t I?
