LSDJ-based chiptune musician/guitar virtuoso Danimal Cannon (known for his work in bands like Metroid Metal, Armcannon, and Weaponex) just released his new album, Roots, full of some of the best uses of LSDJ I've heard in a while. It takes a lot of skill to get such a full sound out of those four music channels, and he's done it amazingly well. The only other artist I can think of who's been able to do something like that recently is Knife City (the solo project of Luke Silas, drummer for Anamanaguchi).

I really like the tone Danimal Cannon has in this album. It has hard, fast beats like "Roots" and "Danimal Across America", but along with that, he has more mellow and surprisingly atmospheric songs like his performance of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata". I've never heard someone create such atmosphere with LSDJ.

You can pick up the full album from his Bandcamp here for $10, with free streaming, and two of the songs from the album, "Roots" and "Gorelax", are free downloads. Check it out.
