Promotion for upcoming strategy RPG Fire Emblem: Awakening (or Kakusei for our friends in the East) is just beginning to pick up, with this week's issue of Jump sharing the first trickle of details.

So what exactly is the Awakening of the title? According to Jump, "Two sleeping dragons -- one a sacred ally of mankind, the other its sworn destroyer. Two heroes marked with symbols of the dragons. Their meeting heralds the dragons' awakening -- and the world's ending."

Players will follow the adventures of Krom, Prince of the Iris Kingdom and wielder of the "sealed sword" Falchion. Krom, in accordance with Fire Emblem tradition, is a Lord class. Players will also be able to create their own character, selecting gender, class, looks, e.t.c. to his or her liking. Krom and the player-created character will meet, their introduction serving as an important plot-point to the game.

Jump has also revealed two elements of gameplay: free maps and the "Dual system." The former is the same map system of Fire Emblem fame, while the latter allows you to place your unit beside an ally and enter battle fighting side-by-side. This variation of fighting will encourage acquirement of new abilities.

Fire Emblem: Awakening is scheduled to release in Japan on April 19. There is no word yet on a western release.
