Square Enix released today a new batch of screenshots of Dragon Quest X: Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku Online, that will be released this year on the Wii (at least in Japan, since no information has been shared about a western release yet), and will then follow on the Wii U.

The scrennshots feature mainly the battle system, that will still be based on the menu commands typical of the Dragon Quest franchise, with the addition of the ability to move freely on the battlefield.

Moreover, some of the screenshots showcase the importance of positioning to avoid area of effect attacks, and they also introduce the “Weight” mechanic. Characters will have an innate “Weight” statistic, and tanks will have the ability to increase it temporarily. With a high weight they will be able to physically prevent monsters from reaching the more vulnerable party members and attacking them.

Finally, monsters will have special attacks that will produce devastating effects on the party unless countered properly.
