The team at Square Enix is really pushing the envelope of the visuals of Final Fantasy XV, and a new article on the Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu had a few interesting screenshots showcasing the tech used to create natural-looking eyes and hair.

The first screenshot showcases Cidney's beautiful eyes, showing how they have been modeled reproducting the structure of a real eye, allowing for realistic reflections, including those from the peripheral area.

The second pair of screenshots compares the eye model without (left) and with (right) the advanced eye shader.

The third picture showcases the advanced hair effects on Luna, the wig used as a model, and a performance capture session.

We also learn that hair is about 20,000-30,000 polygons per character, and Square Enix used the Light Scattering from Human Hair Fibers model by Stephen R. Marschner in order to retain a natural glossy look of the fibers and the way they reflect the light, caused by the translucent material on the surface of human hair. Incidentally, Luna's hairstyle was created by a professional hair stylist.

It's definitely hard not to be impressed every time we see something new about Final Fantasy XV. If the gameplay and story will be close to the quality of the visuals, we're in for a real treat.
