The official Gears of War website posted an announcement about a new comic series that'll be starting up in 2018.

The comic book series will create a new expanded universe set in the Gears of War world we know and love. Kurtis Wiebe, writer of Rat Queens, is teaming up with IDW Publishing and will be taking on the new comics.

He shared his thoughts on the opportunity:

I'm thrilled to be part of this new adaptation with IDW. With the release of Gears of War 4, fans experienced all the classic callbacks to the brutal, over-the-top action and tone they were used to but there was a new dynamic created with the younger generation of heroes in JD, Kait, and Del. That's the same experience I want for the comic readers. Something that feels familiar but fresh through new, as-of-yet unexplored regions and stories of the Gears of War universe.

IDW publishing is also going to be releasing all of Gears of War's classic comic book catalog alongside the new series.

The first issue is going to be released sometime in January 2018.
