Nintendo just announced that it will release a new console within its portable 3DS family, the New Nintendo 2DS XL.

The console will launch in North America on July 28th, for a suggested retail price of $149.99. In Japan (where it'll launch on July 13th) it'll follow the usual nomenclature, with an "LL" instead of "XL" in the name.

The console will have the same screen size of the New Nintendo 3DS XL, but like the 2DS, it will lack the 3D feature. It will include the C-stick, and the ZL and ZR buttons, on top of NFC tech to ensure communication with amiibo.

It'll be also much lighter than the 3DS XL, weighing about 260g instead of 329g.

In Japan, it'll be sold in two color combinations, "Black X Turquoise" and "White X Orange," but only the first has been announced for North American release.

Update: Nintendo of Europe followed up with its own announcement and trailer and it appear that the Old Continent will also get both colors like Japan.

In addition to this, we also learn that Hey! PIKMINand Miitopia will be released in North America on the same day, July 28th.

Below you can check out an announcement trailer and a few official pictures of both colors.
