During the Xbox One presentation Activision showcased a new reveal trailer for the latest entry in the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: Ghosts, featuring details on the story and a lot of gameplay. The publisher also unveiled a behind the scenes preview of the game’s graphics.
In the first video, we get a narrative in the point of the view of the elite soldier protagonists, known as Ghosts, as they traverse new lands and are exposed to both human threats and natural dangers. We also get a look at a new ally–a squad dog who sniffs out explosives and protects the team.
The second video is a behind the scenes look at the new gaming engine for Ghosts, as well as new gameplay features such as “Mantle” (which allows the character to jump walls and obstacles without losing momentum), “Lean” (improves the player’s field of vision by allowing the character to lean forward and backward) and “Slide” (allowing you to get out the line of fire quickly and awesomely). They’ve also introduced fluid dynamics, interactive smoke, additional AI (such as fish moving out the way when your character is too close) and other graphical improvements. Multiplayer introduces dynamic maps and character customization.
To be honest, what I’m excited for the most is the squad dog. I always loved the idea of video games incorporating an animal companion into a game because it allows for some unique gameplay mechanics and interactions. I look forward to seeing more of this mechanism in later Call of Duty: Ghosts trailers.
