Newest Crackdown isn’t “Crackdown 3,” More of a Sequel to the First Game

The upcoming Crackdown title for the Xbox One won’t be going by the name Crackdown 3, creative director Ken Lobb has said.

Speaking to Eurogamer, he said that he was part of the reason that the game would go by simply Crackdown.

I don’t like X game number seven. It’s a good idea sometimes to have a game with a subtitle.

He noted that while Crackdown does take place after the first title, it won’t necessarily interact with the second game.

It is the future. This is a different place, long after the original game. But is it 2? Is it a different universe than 2? Yeah, it’s kinda a sequel to 1.

Lobb isn’t clear on why this is, but does acknowledge Crackdown 2‘s weaknesses.

So, we took a while and made Crackdown 1. Crackdown 2 we kinda rushed. Sorry. I liked it. It wasn’t Crackdown 1.
