In spite of recent rumors positing that the Hitman franchise was effectively dead with news that its upcoming iteration on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox, Square Enix has confirmed that this is not the case.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Square Enix stated that, “there’s a bit of confusion around the Hitman projects currently in development at Square Enix owned studios and so we wanted to take the time to clarify what each studio is working on to clear up some of this confusion.” They then went on to confirm that IO Interactive is currently developing the next Hitman game.

IO Interactive most recently developed 2012’s Hitman: Absolution and 2010’s Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. A mobile Hitman game is being developed by Square Enix Montreal.
