Today, developer Messhof announced that it's dueling, sword-fighting tug-of-war-like game, Nidhogg 2, is set to release on August 15th on PS4, PC, and Mac.

As you may remember, Nidhogg first released back in 2014 where it established itself as one of the best co-op games of this generation with its hectic, easy to pick up, but hard to master gameplay. Then last September Nidhogg 2 was announced for PC boasting an all new art style (a style many fans weren't fond of). Then two months later in November, the game was announced for PS4 (no PS Vita announcement).

For those that don't know: Nidhogg 2 is basically more Nidhogg. In it, two players face off with swords (and other weapons). The idea is to get by your opponent on a 2D plane (either by winning in a sword duel or by managing to wiggle your way by them) in order to advance to their side of the screen in a tug-of-war-ish style. However, once you get by your opponent they will eventually respawn right in front of you and try to take back control of the camera. Your goal is to persevere and make it all the way to the end and sacrifice yourself to the flying worm called Nidhogg. It's intense -- or at least the first game was.

In addition to the new art style, Nidhogg 2 also will come packed with new moves and weapons across ten different arenas, customizable characters, and more. While the series is best known for its multiplayer and couch co-op, it also has a single-player mode as well.

At the moment of writing this, it is currently unclear how much Nidhogg 2 will cost when it launches.  If you want, you check out a new PlayStation Blog post from Messhoff's Creative Director and co-founder Mark Essen who goes into detail on the game's creative process, including why an art style change was made. Further, you can check also peep a slab of new gameplay footage that was showcased during E3 2017 if you want to see the game in action.
