Today Square Enix announced that the action JRPG by Yoko Taro and PlatinumGames NieR: Automata passed 1.5 million shipments. The reveal came through the game's official Twitter account.

According to the tweet, the number has been achieved summing physical shipments to retain stores and digital downloads, and considering that it was a niche title, it's definitely a great achievement.

During the latest investor conference call, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda acknowledged that the game sold "significantly" above the publisher's expactations. It had passed 1 million shipments by the beginning of April.

NieR: Automata is currently available for PS4 and PC, and already received the first DLC, titled 3C3C1D119440927, with more planned to come down the line.
