NetherRealm Studios along with Warner Bros. Interactive and DC Comics had a surprise for attendees of this weekend’s San Diego Comic Convention. The gameplay of two characters – one of whom is new – was unveiled on the show-floor in the latest demonstration of the Mortal Kombat-developer’s upcoming title, Injustice: Gods Among Us.

One of the two characters was Cyborg, a common misconception is that he was just introduced this week; this is not entirely true. The character himself was shown in the initial trailer for the game, confirming his existence. The character’s gameplay however, is something we have not seen until now. Cyborg’s fighting style was described as, “a series of powerful hand-to-hand attacks complemented with long-range attacks: lasers, fireballs and missile strikes.”

The second character, Nightwing, was completely absent from all of the previous trailers and is a brand new addition to the game. I am sure that there are plenty of ‘Dick-heads’ out there that are pleased knowing that their boy will be in the game. Dick’s fighting style is essentially, “weapons-based, wielding a staff that has [an] extended reach for sweeping and poking attacks,” additionally, he was also described as being much more agile and, “nimbler” – obviously a reference to his background as an acrobat.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is being developed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U. The title is expected to be released sometime in 2013.
