The NX, or whatever Nintnedo’s next console will be called, seems to be making some serious progress. Reports are coming out that development kits for the NX have begun to be distributed to the third party developers and other familiar tech analysts. These analysts also seem confident that Nintendo is hoping to publish the NX sooner rather than later, with a 2016 release date all but confirmed.
The dev kits apparently include ‘industry-leading chips’, which we have heard before, but would be a nice answer to the common complaints about the Wii U’s lack of power. The most interesting feature of the report is the hardware capabilities itself:
“Nintendo would likely include both a console and at least one mobile unit that could either be used in conjunction with the console or taken on the road for separate use.”
It seems that the NX may incorporate both the handheld and console gaming sides of Nintendo into one experience. We will have to wait and see in 2016 what the official NX announcement actually brings us, however.
