Nintendo had a very good 2014 with the Nintendo 3DS. Thanks to the latest Media Create hardware chart we learn that the 3DS has overtaken three million units sold in Japan just in time for the end of 2014, reaching a total of 3,176,525 consoles that found a loving home in the archipelago of the rising sun.

The last week of December was rather spectacular, with 196,274 units sold in just seven days.

We also learn that over 1.2 million of the total annual sales are New 3DS. To be precise, the new iteration of Nintendo's portable sold a total of 1,236,364 units, showing a marked local success for Nintendo's new portable iteration.

The New 3DS's Holiday performance was also nothing short of impressive, with 310,500 units sold in the last two weeks of December.
