Following today's Nintendo Direct presentation, Square Enix and Nintendo released a press release including a large batch of screenshots of the upcoming pixel art JRPG code named Project Octopath Traveler.

The artwork gives us another look on two of the eight protagonists that we'll be able to select in the game, Primrose the dancer and Olberic the warriors. The screenshot show their unique path actions, that can be used respectively to allure NPCs to follow Primrose, or to have Olberic challenge them to a duel.

While the other six protagonists have not been announced, the artwork provides a glimpse on all of them, and they certainly appear to be a diverse bunch including mages, rogues and even a hunter or animal tamer.

On top of them, we get another rather extensive look at the battle system, and at the game's charming visuals nicknamed by the development team "2D-HD"

You can check them all out below, and if you want to see more, you can also enjoy the trailer from the Nintendo Directthe initial announcement trailer, on top of checking out some more screenshots and reading a message from Producer Tomoya Asano.

Project Octopath Traveler is just a working title for the moment, and the title is set to release simultaneously worldwide in 2018.
