Today, during Splatoon 2's Nintendo Direct event, the house of Mario revealed that the companion app for its newest console, the Switch, will be launching in just a few weeks, on July 21st, 2017.

The Nintendo Switch Online App is designed to enhance your experience with the Switch by offering a unique experience for each compatible game. Splatoon 2 will be one of the first game's to take advantage of the app, as it will grant you access to SplatNet 2. Much like the original SplatNet. This allows you to see your gear and stats. In addition, you'll also be able to chat with other players, and invite them into your lobby.

As previously announced, the latter two features are a part of the Switch's online service, which will be free until 2018, when you'll then be required to shell out up to $19.99 for a twelve-month membership.

In addition to the announcement of the app's release date, Nintendo also announced a ton of new information about Splatoon 2, including the customization options, the gear you'll wear, and more details on the new mode hitting the franchise called Salmon Run.

The Nintendo Switch originally launched on March 3rd, 2017, while Splatoon 2 is set to be released on the same day as the app, on July 21st, 2017.
