According to Nintendo’s second quarter financial report for the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2014, their digital market has increased by a large amount.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata asserted that a “significant expansion” of digital business is needed to “adapt to changes” and “create new business opportunities.”
In regards to the increase in digital sales, Iwata also stated:
The download sales in the first half of this fiscal year reached 11.4 billion yen, which is more than double the figure in the first half of the previous year and surpassed that of the second half.

As one can see 2011 and 2012 stagnated, but then digital sales picked up dramatically in 2013 and continues to increase since then.
