Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata Will Not Be Attending E3 Again This Year; Will Focus on “Other Areas” of Company Business in Japan

Last year, a surprising turn of events led to Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata not attending last year’s E3 2014 due to health concerns, and with more recent news indicating that Iwata will once again not be available to attend this year’s E3, though thankfully not due to such serious concerns.

In a statement to IGN, Nintendo detailed that Iwata will not be in attendance at E3 2015 for the second consecutive year, with the company citing Iwata’s important role in company business causing the need for him to stay in Japan during the event. Nintendo’s full statement reads:

“Nintendo’s focus for E3 this year will be showcasing the many games we have coming for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Mr. Miyamoto and other members of our development team will be in Los Angeles to explain these games and the unique experiences that each offers. Mr. Iwata’s focus in this period will be on other areas of our business that require his presence in Japan.”

Despite Iwata once again being unable to attend in person at this year’s E3 2015, Nintendo assured that Iwata will still be in “constant contact” with the company while away in Los Angeles during E3 2015, and will still be monitoring reactions to what will surely be a plentiful amount of surprises at this year’s big event. Even though Iwata won’t be there in person, he will surely be there in spirit (and in good health).

E3 2015 will take place from June 15th – 18th, 2015 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA.
