Today Koei Tecmo released a large official batch of screenshots of the upcoming NiOh story DLC titled Defiant Honor.

The DLC brings William to the famous Siege of Osaka in winter 1614, which is a turning point of the period of civil strife called Sengoku Era. He is accompanying the army of Date Masamune to pursue the mysterious Maria.

Barring their path is Sanada Yukimura, considered by many the greatest warrior of Japan, he stands atop his SanadaMaru forttress, defending Osaka at the service of Tokugawa Ieyasu's arch-enemy, Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Serving Yukimura are two guardian spirits, the flame kirin Enku and the moth Janomecho, that he inherited from Otani Yoshitsugu.

Of course, Yukimura also has mortals doing his bidding, and one of those is Sarutobi Sasuke, who studied martial arts and ninjutsu in various regions, following his daimiyo like a shadow. Of course, a battle against Hattori Hanzo is inevitable.

The screenshots show multiple new stages, including the battlefield of Osaka Fuyunojin, where William will be able to control cannons to destroy the fortifications of clan Toyotomi, Inariyama, a mountain temple that serves as the center of the cult of the fox kami Inari Okami, and Sanadamaru, the fortress built by Sanada Yukimura atop the ruins of a shrine, making good use of the defensible high ground and harbor.

The new weapon, the tonfa, is also showcased extensively. It's good at curbing the momentum of the opponent, and very effective even when used in defense. Its weak point is that it has a very short reach, forcing the user to get very close to the enemy.

William will be able to gain two different guardian spirits through the course of the DLC. One is the flaming kirin Enku, while the other is Nurarihyon, a spirit with the appearance of an old man with a large head. It is said to hold the power to see the truth while distorting the perception of others. It has a lot of experience and wisdom.

Last, but not least, we see a new item named "Fan of the Tengu" that can be used to generate a tornado of cutting winds, and a powerful Onmyodo power named Fusenfu, that also holds the power of the wind.

You can check the screenshots out below. The DLC will be released exclusively for PS4  on July 25th. If you want to see more, you can also check out the previous DLC "Dragon of th North", and our review of NiOh, that is currently available on PS4.
