Notch Hates EA’s ‘Indie Bundle,’ Erupts on Twitter

Oh, dear. Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, co-founder and chairman of Mojang (developers of Minecraft), blasted Electronic Arts this morning via Twitter. In his tweets he criticized the recent release of a batch of indie titles under the EA banner.

“That’s not how it works,” Persson stated, “stop attempting to ruin everything, you cynical bastards…Indie games are saving gaming. EA is methodically destroying [gaming].” Persson backpedaled slightly however, claiming that he had no problem with the games included in the pack, but that he was simply, “questioning EA.” Persson also clarified that he was not putting himself on a pedestal, as he no longer considers Mojang to be an indie developer.

The game(s) that Persson is raging about is known as EA’s Indie Bundle. Recently released on Steam in Europe, the bundle includes Shank, Shank 2, Gatling Gears, and Warp. All of these games were developed by small studios and published by EA. The deal for these games is set to expire on May 9th, 2012.
