As we enter the “age of VR”, plenty of gamers are eager to get their hands on the latest hardware and try it out. Oculus Rift will be making this a feasible goal this summer with a number of demos at select Best Buy retailers across the United States. You can check the Oculus Live page to find a store near you and book a 30 minute demo.
Even more interesting than the demo though, is the fact that a limited number of Rift headsets will be available to people participating in these demos for purchase. Oculus is in hot water with fans at the moment because pre-ordered units are continually delayed, and now a limited quality of retail units will be available before some early supporters get their own.
Oculus understands the frustration and issued the following statement regarding retail units:
“We know that many pre-order customers are still waiting for their Rifts, so we’re offering those customers a chance to purchase Rift from retail instead — while keeping their pre-order benefits, like the EVE: Valkyrie Founder’s Pack and priority status for Touch pre-orders. If you’re interested, simply go to your order status and let us know you’ve purchased a Rift at retail, and we’ll cancel your pre-order. Your EVE: Valkyrie entitlement will appear in your order history.”
The Oculus Rift launched on March 28, 2016.
