Oniken Reminds You Of How Awesome 80’s Video Games Used To Be

on February 3, 2014 12:12 PM

Described as “NES hard, but also NES awesome,” Oniken is a throwback to old platform action games like Strider and Ninja Gaiden that were incredibly hard but also incredibly addictive. Infused with the look and sound of the 1980’s, Oniken‘s new trailer — which you can view below — is meant to draw in old and new fans alike with insane battles and challenging enemies.

Set a post-apocalyptic dystopia where a war-torn humanity is being oppressed by the evil military organization Oniken, only a small rebel movement and a ninja mercenary named Zaku can stop the evil forces from dominating the world.

Oniken seems to already be available via Desura, and is set to release on Wednesday, February 5th on Steam. On both the game is available for PC, Mac and Linux.

Man, this game makes me miss the old days of blowing into a cartridge for ten minutes and needing to write down paragraph-long password codes. Ah, nostalgia.

Born and raised in video games and "geek culture," Masoud has been bred off of fantasy worlds his entire life and doesn't see anything wrong with that. He loves RPGs (especially TRPGs), sandbox games, the sci-fi genre, dieselpunk, art deco, and anything that allows him to create. Having graduated from John Jay College with a degree in English and a minor in Creative Writing, Masoud hopes to one day pen the same novels, comics, movies, and video games he enjoys escaping into when the real world gets too boring.
