Today, publisher THQ Nordic and developer Piranha Bytes -- creators of the Risen and Gothic series -- announced that science-fantasy, open world action RPG, Elex, is launching on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 17, 2017.

Additionally, a new CGI Trailer and Collector's Editions have also been revealed. The latter includes the game (obviously), a manual, an artbook, the original score on CD, a cloth map showing the game's world Magalan, a 2-inch amulet in the form of a combat drone, and a 10-inch figureine of an Alb Mage.

According to the developer, Elex, is a handcrafted action RPG set in a large post-apocalpytic science-fantasy universe full of original characters, mutated creatures, and deep moral choices. Think of it this way: its where magic meets mechs.

The following story overview of the game is provided:

Being raised as an Alb and fed pure Elex to strengthen your body, which also stripped you of all emotions, your world of cold logic and military discipline were all you knew. Set to rise through the ranks, a scourge to your enemies, your destiny seemed certain. Now, as the smoke rises over the wreckage of your glider in the mountains of Edan, you are trapped far from your home Xacor. With no access to pure Elex, you are experiencing emotions for the first time in your life. Stranded amongst your enemies and outcast from your people, in front of you lies a new and open path, as heavily laden with magnificence as it is with ruin. The decisions you make will decide the fate of the world. Magalan – will you be its slayer or its savior?

In the game you find a companion, choose a faction, and influence the world. There is no traditional class system: instead you must earn the trust of experienced teachers to learn and develop skills of your selection. Your attitude towards people will also influence things around you -- such as whether you make an ally or enemy out of someone. Every choice in the game is said to forge the future of the rest of the game.

The world is split up into five regions, all of which you have access to from the very start. You can go where you want, choose your battles and your allies. If you see something, you can reach it. The only thing in your way are mutant creatures that inhabit Magalan’s Elex-polluted landscapes.

Then there is the combat. According to the developer, Elex offers one of the widest selections of weaponry in RPG history: from swords and axes, to bows and crossbow, to even harpoons. Oh, and there is shotguns, and plasma rifles, and flame throwers. And hammers, and rocket launchers, and the power of magic. Yeah, its got it all.

It's currently unclear how much Elex or its collector edition will cost. But we do have a new trailer: which you can check out below:
