Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman Responds to Fire TV Reveal, Comments “Games Are Not Simply An Added Bonus”

Earlier this week Amazon entered the gaming marketplace in a big way with the reveal of its new streaming media device, the Fire TV, of which the device has been announced to be capable of streaming video games to users’ TVs, putting it in stiff competition with last year’s micro-console, the Ouya.

Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman responded to the reveal of Amazon’s device following its announcement, providing comments on Ouya’s place in the market against the device and mentioning that overall, her and the company are confident that Ouya can hold its own.

While Uhrman praises Amazon and their new device’s ambitions, Uhrman points out the Ouya’s innovation and goals as a gaming-minded device with a focus on the gaming and development experience. Specifically, Uhrman mentioned:

“Just as Amazon blazed a trail for a new way of selling online, Ouya invented a new way to think about console games. But for us, games are not simply an ‘added bonus’, they are the whole point.¬†Ouya is solely dedicated to the devs creating games, and the players who play them. Their ideal experience is all we think about.”
