With Chinese New Year on the horizon, Overwatch is joining in the celebrations with the game's newly-launched Year of the Rooster event that kicked off this week, and alongside plenty of new skins, items, and the brand new Capture the Rooster mode, as broken down in a new update from the developers.

In a new Developers Update video from the game's YouTube channel, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan explained the thought and design that went into the new game mode Capture the Rooster, a capture-the-flag style mode that is part of the game's Year of the Rooster event. Interestingly enough, Kaplan goes into great detail about how the mode was originally tested for Overwatch in its early development but wasn't included, while explaining how it wound up returning for the latest seasonal event.

The Year of the Rooster event kicked off on January 24th as Overwatch's next seasonal event based on the celebrations for Chinese New Year, with the event (like previous ones) to include new character skins and other items only available for a limited time in the game's Lunar Loot Boxes. The Year of the Rooster seasonal event will be running now through February 13th, 2017.

Overwatch is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC - for more info from the development team on the Capture the Rooster mode, you can check out the full Developer Update below:
