Path of Exile December Patch to Focus on PvP

on October 15, 2014 7:34 PM

In a new post on the Path of Exile forums, producer Chris Wilson made an extensive post detailing the focus of December’s update to be on PvP.

The update, which will be numbered 1.3.0, will introduce the games first PvP season. PvP seasons will be home for tournaments of various lengths and free-for-all events inspired by the Sarn Arena. Each season will last roughly a month and provide unique alternate art items as prizes to earn with the equivalent to Demidgod uniques available for the best players to snag.

For this first PvP season, espect 1v1 level 28 dueling to be the primary focus. Future seasons will shift to focus on different types of events, like team based combat. For those worried about this changing builds drastically and ruining balance, fear not, for Chris also said in the post that,

We’ve been putting a lot of effort into improving the tools for PvP balance. We want to make sure we can balance skills and damage scaling in a way that doesn’t affect the core PvE game. In order to give players the tools to combat various popular builds in the PvP metagame, we are designing unique items that are both very useful for PvP characters but also have some niche uses in PvE (like Dream Fragments).

Aside from the new PvP features, expect to see new challenge leagues and other tweaks and bug fixes as well. The details of these additional changes will be revealed closer to release. Let me know if you are looking forward to all the changes to Path of Exile in the comments below as we slowly make our way to next years upcoming expansion.
