During last year's E3 2014, Microsoft sent out a resounding surprise with the reveal of Phantom Dust, a reboot of the 2005 Xbox cult-classic: since then details on the game have been incredibly quiet, but the latest news on the game suggests some shake ups in the game's development.

Reports detail that developer Darkside Studios has been shut down by Microsoft, with the company canceling the studio's version of the game and resulting in nearly 50 job losses at the studio. In a statement, a Microsoft spokesperson detailed more on the news between Microsoft and Darkside, and gave further details that while Darkside Games' version of the game has been cancelled, Microsoft will continue development on the game, though no other information was given on whether another studio will handle the title or takeover the work that Darkside originally made.

A statement from a Microsoft spokesperson mentioned more on the state of Phantom Dust:

"Microsoft partnered with Darkside Game Studios in the development of 'Phantom Dust,' but our working relationship has now ended. We have great respect for their studio and their work in the industry. While we do not have anything new to share on 'Phantom Dust' at this time, we can confirm that development of the title continues. We look forward to sharing more details on the game as we get closer to release."

Phantom Dust was revealed as an Xbox One exclusive title at last year's E3 2014.
