While titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Horizon: Zero Dawn have drawn critical and commercial success in the early part of the year, the PC Early Access title PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has grown into a phenomenon thanks to its rapid popularity with streamers on Twitch and YouTube, with the game's development team eyeing a release on consoles down the line.

Speaking in an interview with Business Insider, developer Brendan Greene (aka "PlayerUnknown") explained that the game is potentially on track to release on consoles, with Greene adding that "we have a team working already on looking to port it to at least the Xbox [One]," while the team is "looking at both consoles of course" in reference to a PS4 version of the game.

While no firm details have arrived yet on when to expect the game to release on consoles, Greene explained that the PC version of the game is expected to be completed within the next five months, while a PS4 and Xbox One version of the title could arrive as soon as the end of 2017.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is currently available on PC through Steam Early Access.
