Impressive fact of the day: PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has sold a whopping 4 million copies within 3 months on Steam Early Access.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds launched back on March 23rd, in a month that saw big releases like Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, Mass Effect: Andromeda, NieR: Automata, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, LEGO Worlds, and oh just the launch of the Switch. There was zero room to breath, and even less room for almost every other game to grab mind share.

The following months of April, May, and now June slowed down -- but still produced a considerable amount of big releases like Persona 5 (in the west), Yooka-Laylee, Prey, Injustice 2, Tekken 7, Bayonetta on PC, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Vanquish on PC, and Friday The 13th: The Game. That being said, through all of these games -- in a very dense first half of 2017 -- one of the biggest stories has been PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. If you haven't heard of it, you've likely seen one of its many gifs -- they are impossible to avoid even if you tried.

As you may remember, back on April 10th, developer and publisher Bluehole announced that the last-man-standing style third-person shooter had sold more than one million units in just a mere 16 days on the market. Then after a little over a month of the game being out, it revealed the game had doubled the figure (May 2nd).

Now, another month and 3 weeks(ish) later, Bluehole has revealed the game has doubled it's last sale figure again, now at 4 million in one day shy of 3 months.

For those that don’t know: PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is a third-person battle-royale, last-man-standing shooter from PLAYERUNKNOWN aka Brendan Green, a pioneer of the Battle Royale genre who made a name for himself for creating the Battle Royale game-mode in the ARMA series and H1Z1: King of the Hill.

An official description continues:

Starting with nothing, players must fight to locate weapons and supplies in a battle to be the lone survivor. This realistic, high tension game is set on a massive 8x8 km island with a level of detail that showcases Unreal Engine 4's capabilities.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available via Steam Early Access for $29.99 USD. It is scheduled to release later this year on PC and Xbox One. It's currently a bit ambiguous when and if the game will hit PS4.
