The PlayStation Vita sold 500,000 units during the holidays. So, apparently, did the PlayStation 2. Well, Vita’s sales were Japan only and the PS2’s were worldwide, but that’s still impressive for a 10-year-old system. Even though Sony has shifted focus toward the PS3 and the coming international release of the Vita, it seems the best-selling system of the last console generation is still putting up respectable sales.
Sony attributes the PS2’s continuing popularity to its adoption in “emerging countries such as Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and South America.” I know one of my strategies is to pick up a console at least a year after it releases and then buy games on the cheap. And the thing still gets a new release here and there.
