PlayStation Awards Honor Biggest PS4, PS3 and PS Vita Games of 2016 in Japan and Asia

Today Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan and Asia held its annual PlayStation Awards in Tokyo, recognizing the best selling PlayStation titles in the local market, in addition to the User’s Choice Award and two special prizes selected by Sony itself.

Platinum Prizes (over one million shipments in japan and Asia, including downloads, as of September 30th, 2016):

Gold Prizes (over 500,000 shipments in japan and Asia, including downloads, as of September 30th, 2016):

  • Dark Souls III

As you can see above, no Platinum Award was delivered this year, as no PlayStation game managed to sell over a million copies in the Japanese and Asian markets. Last year three titles managed to go over that thresholdMetal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Minecraft and Dragon Quest Heroes. On the other hand, only five gold prizes were awarded in 2015, against this year’s ten.

And yes, if you’re wondering, Final Fantasy XV isn’t there because it was released too late to be eligible for this year’s event. That said, Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan and Asia President Atsushi Morita still gave it a nod during his final speech, alongside Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and The Last Guardian.
