As we are swiftly approaching the one year anniversary of the launch of Pokémon GO, Niantic has released the recently-confirmed Raid Battles.

Revealed on the Pokémon GO developer blog, developer Niantic Inc. let everyone know that the long-awaited Raid Battles are live for anyone over Level 5. Have you taken an extended leave and forget when that is? Around the same time you are asked to choose between Valor, Instinct, and Trash.

For those out of the loop, Raid Battles are new cooperative events found in Pokémon GO. You and up to 19 other players (provided you have a raid ticket on hand) can take on a larger-than-life egg sitting at a nearby gym, with Raid Bosses being typically more difficult to find, legendary Pokémon.

Defeating the Raid Boss will give you the option to capture the Pokémon, as well as gain either Rare Candies, Golden Razz Berries or two types of TMs.

Raid Battles are only one of many Pokémon GO additions coming to celebrate Year 1 of the mobile phenomena. This included a revitalization of the Gym system (adding the ability to collect items like PokéStops) as well as a collection of brand new items.

Pokémon GO is currently available for iOS and Android devices.
