As gamers everywhere are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the beloved Pokemon series in its ongoing “#Pokemon20” celebrations, the series has also happened to have reached new sales milestones according to the series’ developer to help in the celebrations.

The Pokemon Company announced that the Pokemon series has achieved total sales of over 200 million copies worldwide in the “core series” of games, not including the various spin-off titles and also including copies of the series sold through February 29th, 2016 – just after the original three titles (Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow) were re-released on the Nintendo 3DS eShop last month.

Including the many spin-off titles and games in the series, the Pokemon series has reached a total lifetime sales number of 277 million copies worldwide according to The Pokemon Company, along with numerous other stats released for other areas of the Pokemon brand including its massively popular trading card game, its movies and TV shows, and more.

Along with tomorrow’s release of Pokken Tournament on the Wii U, the Pokemon series will also expand later this year with new installments of the core series, Pokemon Sun & Moon, which will release for the 3DS later this year.
