Among a busy season for racing game fans with the likes of Forza Horizon 2 and Driveclub last year, Project CARS sped out of the gate onto current-gen consoles and PC this past spring and while many have been waiting for the game's Wii U version, new information from the development team indicates that the Wii U version won't cross the finish line.

Speaking with Nintendo Life, developer Slightly Mad Studios confirmed that the Wii U version of Project CARS has been cancelled after previous reports from the studio indicated development troubles with the game's Wii U release.

However, Slightly Mad Studio's head Ian Bell confirmed with Nintendo Life that development of the Wii U version has been cancelled, with Bell explaining that as it stands now, "pCARS is simply too much for the Wii U," with Bell explaining that the company is awaiting news on Nintendo's next hardware announcement, the "NX" console rumored for a reveal next year.

Project CARS is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC - the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions were cancelled during the game's development, while the Wii U version has now been officially cancelled with the development team awaiting news on Nintendo's next console.
