Mercedes-Benz sent in a press release today announcing that the German car manufacturer and Sony Computer Entertainment will collaborate in a series of activities to celebrate the launch of the PS4  racing game Driveclub and the debut of the Mercedes-AMG GT, which will feature exclusively in the game.

The highlight of those events will be a contest named Journey of Stars (accessible at www.journeyofstars.com), which will run from September 9th to October 9th.

The contest will prompt players to form a club and compete against others via Facebook, Google+ and Twitter and to master a series of challenges themed around both Mercedes-Benz and PlayStation.

To win, the members of a club will need to join forces to overcome as many of these challenges as possible while creating the longest-possible line of worldwide connections. Each member of the victorious club will receive a PlayStation 4 and a copy of Driveclub.

In addition to the online contest, gamers will also be able to try the game in racing kiosks at selected Mercedes-Benz branches and events as well as at various trade shows.

We also learn that Evolution Studios worked side-by-side with AMG engineers to recreate the AMG GT in Driveclub with the best degree of accuracy possible. With access to the Mercedes-AMG GT on the test track, the developer was also able to directly record the car’s sound.

Game Director Paul Rustchynsky accompanied the press release with a comment:

The Mercedes-AMG GT is an outstanding sports car and we’re pleased to be able to offer it to gamers in DRIVECLUB before it rolls off the production line. It will be available as a free download within the first week of launch.

Head of Marketing Communication at Mercedes-Benz Cars Dr. Jens Thiemer also commented:

We’re delighted that Mercedes-Benz is so strongly represented in DRIVECLUB. This proves the brand’s attraction and importance, because only the world’s most exciting and prestigious sports cars are selected by the game developers.

The press release also reveals that Driveclub will also feature other Mercedes-Benz rides: the A 45 AMG, the CLA 45 AMG, the C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series, the SL 65 AMG and the SLS AMG Coupe Black Series. With six AMG models included, Mercedes-Benz is the manufacturer with the widest range of cars in the game.

As a final bonus it came with four spectacular 1080p screenshots of the game, which you can see in the gallery below.
