PS4 Release Date in China Postponed Three Days Before Launch; New Date Not Yet Announced

on January 8, 2015 4:29 AM

Sony Computer Entertainment issued a press release today announcing that the launch of the PS4 and of the PlayStation Vita in China, originally scheduled for January 11th, has been postponed due to “various circumstances.”

The announcement does not include any new set launch window, but Sony promises that it remains committed to continue working to release the consoles in China at a later date.

While the press release did not include any further explanation for the delay, announcing it only three days before the launch of two major consoles is definitely unusual. Considering the strict regulations governing the recently permitted sale of foreign consoles in the Shanghai area, Sony may have hit a legislative snag, but that’s just a personal theory for the moment.

We’ll keep you updated as the situation evolves.
