Today Sony Interactive Entertainment made a new PS4 system software update available for download from the PlayStation Network.

The update is numbered 4.72, and it weighs only 340.6 megabytes.

As for what it does, you probably won't be surprised to read the usual patch notes:

"This sytem software update improves the quality of the system performance."

This is pretty much par for the course for decimal updates, and it's the equivalent of the old "stability" update. Apparently someone at Sony got tired of all the memes, and now we get "quality" updates.

At the moment of this writing the update isn’t yet available on the relevant websites, and and you’ll need to use the option in the settings of your PS4 or PS4 Pro to launch it. Later today you should be able to  download it from here if you’re in North America and from here if you’re in Europe.

The latest large update to the PS4 system software was released back in March, and was numbered 4.50. It included external HDD support, Boost Mode for PS4 Pro, custom wallpapers, and much more.
