PSP2 Reportedly Set for Q4 Launch

MCV reports that Sony is setting its sights for a Q4 2011 PSP2 launch, possibly as early as October.

Yesterday we told you that Sony may be announcing the launch on January 27th, could the console really come out so soon? I hope so.

The UK magazine also mentions their sources say the console will be as powerful as the PS3. This may seem outlandish, but remember how crazy we all thought it was that the PSP could be as powerful as the PS1 or PS2? And that was six years ago.

Sony is specifically requesting richer, more in-depth content to differentiate its device from app-centric Apple and Android devices. For several years now the PSP has been the main home for JRPGs, especially in the states. With the console being the perfect format for longer games, since you can take them with you anywhere, and the PSP being the highest selling console in Japan last year, now more than ever Japan is constantly putting out great content for the handheld. The PSP2 having even more great, involving gaming experiences is not only believable, but it’s a very exciting prospect.
